allAfrica.com: Zambia: UNICEF to Host Children Climate Conference

Ndola — UNICEF will host the Zambian Children's Climate Conference III (ZCCC3) in Lusaka from August 15 to 19, 2011.

The national conference would be the third held in the country since the Children's Climate Forum convened in 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where Zambian children were represented by four UNICEF child ambassadors.

Arctic melting brings benefit - UPI.com

Ice in the arctic has been declining more each summer, and even the oldest ice in the arctic, which is the thickest and most resistant to melting, has begun to dwindle.

"This is man-made; there seems to be little doubt in that," Serreze said. "It would be reversible if we were to do something about our carbon dioxide emissions, [but] I don't see much of a fat chance in hell we're going to see any change here. We're going to have to adapt."

Climate change in the area will cause rising sea levels, loss of habitat for Arctic fauna, drinking water shortages, territorial disputes over newly open waters and more, Serreze said.

However, he added, a benefit of the climate change in the arctic is that warmer winters and springs will lengthen growing seasons and perhaps allow for farming in areas where it previously was impractical.

Brit Horatio Chapple, 17, killed in polar bear attack | The Sun |News

The Norwegian Polar Institute says that some bears based in Svalbard will follow the sea ice as it retreats north during the summer melting period to continue hunting, while others will remain on land waiting several months for the ice to return.

While the seals are their main source of prey, they are opportunistic hunters who will scavenge from whale carcasses, feed on nesting seabirds and their eggs, and even kill reindeer.

Bear witness

While there, the party was attacked by the bear and then shot. Had there been no climate change, the party would not have been there, and the polar bear would not have been shot. Ergo, climate change killed the bear. Actually, though, the reality is even more ironic. Norwegian polar experts are apparently saying that there are more polar bears because there is an unexpected (to some) increase in sea ice, which has enabled them to travel more easily.

In fact, it has been so unseasonably cold up there that some of the party had already been airlifted out because of frostbite - oh and "sunburn" ... actually burn from snow glare. Furthermore, we are informed, the camp's protective tripwires did not work because they were frozen solid.

More priceless quotes from Al Gore: 'It’s no longer acceptable in mixed company...to use the goddamn word climate'

"When you go and talk to any audience about climate, you hear them washing back at you the same crap over and over and over again," he continued. "There's no longer a shared reality on an issue like climate even though the very existence of our civilization is threatened. People have no idea! And yet our ability to actually come to a shared reality that emphasizes the best evidence. It's no longer acceptable in mixed company, meaning bipartisan company, to use the goddamn word climate. It is not acceptable. They have polluted it to the point where we cannot possibly come to an agreement on it." Gore lamented the diminished role that reason and fact-based analysis play in modern U.S. politics.

Arctic Expedition Goes Terribly Awry – One Youth Killed By Polar Bear

According to Der Spiegel, the island is inhabited by about 2500 people and 3000 polar bears.

The BSES is a non-profit UK-based youth development charity. Founded in 1932 by the late Surgeon Commander G Murray Levick, a member of Scott's final Antarctic Expedition of 1910-13, BSES is one of the longest running organisations of its type.

Polar bear kills are treated like potential murders

Expeditions are normally provided with firearms for protection. But as Der Spiegel reports, shooting a polar bear is legally risky – no joke:

Pawlenty: Natural causes led to warming - Darren Samuelsohn - POLITICO.com

The weight of the evidence is that most of it, maybe all of it, is because of natural causes," Pawlenty said in an interview published Wednesday. "But to the extent there is some element of human behavior causing some of it — that's what the scientific debate is about. That's why we've seen all this back and forth between some of those prominent scientists in the world arguing about that very point."

Science | offering opposing views amounts to teaching poor science

An informal survey this spring of 800 members of the National Earth Science Teachers Association (NESTA) found that climate change was second only to evolution in triggering protests from parents and school administrators. Online message boards for science teachers tell similar tales. Unlike biology teachers defending the teaching of evolution, however, earth science teachers don't have the protection of the First Amendment's language about religion. But the teachers feel their arguments are equally compelling: Science courses should reflect the best scientific knowledge of the day, and offering opposing views amounts to teaching poor science. Most science teachers don't relish having to engage this latest threat to their profession and resent devoting precious classroom time to a discussion of an alleged "controversy." And they believe that politics has no place in a science classroom. Even so, some are being dragged against their will into a conflict they fear could turn ugly.

The Scientific Method is a beautiful thing. By requiring that scientific hypotheses be testable and subject to objective verification, the Scientific Method distinguishes the pursuit of objective knowledge (science) from faith-based principles and circular logic. The Scientific Method was instrumental in pulling Western Civilization out of the Dark Ages. Yet 1,000 years later, regarding one of the most scientifically and politically important issues of modern times, the Scientific Method is being sacrificed on the altar of Climate Astrology.

Fox And Friends: Spongebob Squarepants Is ‘Pushing A Global Warming Agenda’ | ThinkProgress

The only sides in the climate science "debate" are the side offering the facts and the side intent on ignoring them. Asscientists and nature continually prove, human activity is directly linked to climate change and it will certainly require a change in energy policy to address it. Still, while it is somewhat disconcerting to know a cartoon children's book — or a kid show host — is more familiar with fact than Fox News hosts, it is not entirely surprising.

It makes sense that companies mining Colorado coal would seek overseas markets, especially given the political push in recent years to transition the state's coal-fired power plants to natural gas, which burns about 50 percent cleaner than coal. But the emissions benefits – at least in terms of carbon dioxide – will apparently be a wash when Colorado coal is burned for electricity in Asia.

Climategate was a totally missed opportunity to restore public trust, indeed the reason confidence in the "science" is so low is preciselybecause they intentionally missed the opportunity to out the unacceptable behaviour exposed by the climategate emails. And like an infection this perception that science is corrupt will spread and spread until the public believes all science is corrupt because (almost) all of it has steadfastly refused to condemn the patently corrupt methods of climate "science".

At last! A single scientific paper with empirical data that supports doomsday GW (almost)

So, that's pretty conclusive: after the data has been manipulated to remove the biggest effect on climate (clouds) which are supposedly the key to their positive feedbacks, after measuring for a massive three months using two entirely different instruments flying different orbits measuring over a tiny bit of the globe …. it's conclusive proof.

New paper finds Arctic sea ice strongly linked to varying storm activity

Warmists often claim changes in Arctic sea ice are a consequence of allegedly-anthropogenic global warming. However, a paper published today in the Journal of Geophysical Research finds that "dramatic interannual changes" in Arctic sea ice extent are due to varying storm activity in the months of May-July, which impacts "cloud cover and ice motion, and consequently sea ice melt." The authors find fewer cyclones in the Arctic Ocean "appear to favor a low sea ice area at the end of the melt season." Thus, the alleged connection between AGW and Arctic sea ice extent becomes all the more elusive.

From DOE/Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, probably the biggest load of crap I've seen in quite some time. I realize that's harsh,  and I don't think I've ever used that sentence to describe a scientific study, but there's really no other way to say it when we have massive imports of fruits and vegetables from other countries, and they are worried about carbon in crops crossing state lines and regions in the USA. But the sad part is, this sort of "science" is so bloody obvious a fifth grader could tell you that "Their calculations showed that the most agriculturally active regions, shown in blue, are carbon sinks while the regions with larger populations, shown in red, are carbon sources."
