Global warming conspiracy theories: Fuller equates fraudster Gore with anti-fraudster Monckton
So grand conspiracies don't successfully explain events over the past 20 years, and I don't buy into them. Which is much different from postulating small groups getting together to advance their interests regardless of the public good. I think there has been plenty of that on both sides, ranging from Al Gore and the Climategate Team on one side to the Competitive Enterprise Institute and Viscount Lord Monckton on the other.
High school student stands up to climate change propaganda

“It says (global warming) will kill us all without offering any alternative views throughout high school,” she said. “This goes against board policy which states ‘Teachers shall approach controversial topics in an impartial and unprejudiced manner.’”

On The Media: Transcript of "Hot Mail" (December 11, 2009)
ANDREW REVKIN: If you are a foe of restrictions on greenhouses gasses, you can find plenty of real science out there to support your contention. The rate of sea level rise in this century is still largely undetermined. It could be disastrous; it could be five feet. There was just a new study out of Antarctica saying that’s entirely plausible, but there’s no way to characterize the probability of it.
...
ANDREW REVKIN: Well, the University of East Anglia has announced an inquiry into how they became public. They describe this as a criminal breach. There are people who describe it as a heroic whistleblower. [LAUGHS] What they contain is thousands of not just emails but documents, including raw computer code, a programmer’s years-long log of his laments of dealing with these confusing data sets and scientists talking to each other about pending papers.
...
BOB GARFIELD: In one case, scientists put together a graph of temperature trends, and part of the graph derived from tree ring data and part derived from thermometer measurements and part was kind of lopped off because it suggested that for one important period temperatures were going down, not up. Using nominal facts, assembling them artfully to tell a larger lie, is that not what this graph represents?

ANDREW REVKIN: I can't make that judgment. No one has dived into the data underlying these graphs, except the peer reviewers when the papers were published. I have to wait for the inquiry to be completed before I can make some kind of determination.
Capping wine making is next global warming step - VIEWPOINTS - The News Herald
To my horror, the article stated that all grape wines are made from carbon dioxide. The plants breathe in CO2, the grape forms because of that and then is crushed, stomped or otherwise pulverized and caused to ferment. Then out comes the wine. Wow!

The thing that scares me about this is the fact that the fermentation process also produces more CO2. Big bad word, that CO2.

The questions Dr Pachauri still has to answer - Christopher Booker - Telegraph
Just how surreal the business of "carbon trading" has become is illustrated by another project, which has no direct connection with Dr Pachauri but which involves the plan by a Tata subsidiary to build one of the world's largest coal-fired power stations in the state of Gujarat. Nearly $1 billion needed to build the 4 gigawatt Mundra plant is being supplied in cheap "green loans" by the World Bank and the Asia Development Bank (to both of which Dr Pachauri acts as an adviser), because the plant will emit CO2 at a "lower intensity" than older power stations in India. For the same reason, the plant will also qualify for a potential $560 million in "carbon credits" under the UN's CDM scheme, which can then be sold on the world market.
...
Similarly it is Tata which next month is to close down its Corus steel works at Redcar, to make a potential £600 million in "credits" from the carbon emissions this will save, while in India it will earn a similar amount in UN CDM "credits" by building a plant of similar capacity in Orissa. It will thus make a potential gain of £1.2 billion, at the expense of 1,700 jobs on Teesside, for no overall reduction in the amount of CO2 emitted to the atmosphere.

Climate denialists like to argue that they are "well armed" to deny the overwhelming scientific consensus on climate change. And in some respects they are, because these non-science free market lobbying groups have a long history of setting up fake front organizations and now blogger networks to saturate the public domain with intentional misinformation. They did it to deny that smoking caused cancer, that CFCs affected the ozone hole, that smokestacks in Ohio caused acid rain in New England, and that killer smogs were the result of pollution. In all cases the denialists were wrong, the scientists were right, and policy-makers finally made decisions that helped to fix the problems. In fact, some of the current climate change denialists are the very same people and lobbying groups that denied the earlier science.

I believe with all my heart that everybody involved in this debate in their own heart knows what the answer to that question is.”

Gore has grown rich, eminent, won a Nobel Prize, completely disrupted the world and turned international relations into a gigantic slap-stick farce. The absence of evidence that global warming is actually occurring, and that human activity affects the world's temperature at all, was scarcely mentioned. The real result, however, is the pledged objective of not permitting the world's temperature to increase more than two centigrade degrees by 2050. Since it has only risen one degree in the last 35 years, and not at all in the last ten, this should be safe enough. Tough Winter Weather for Europe and North America
1. An arctic outbreak chilled Finland, Scandinavia and the Russian heartland. Helsinki, Finland, was as cold as -22 C--17 degrees below normal for the date--on Dec. 18. A low of -16C at Stockholm was about as significant. Gardermoen, near Oslo, Norway, came in at -20C on the coldest day. Windswept snow and cold to -5C chilled Copenhagen conference goers during last weekend. In Russia, Moscow had its harshest cold--down to at least 26 degrees C below zero on the 15th and 16th of the month--since 2006.

The previous record for Christmas Eve in Duluth, which has gotten more than 22 inches in two days, was 3 inches in 1893, said Kevin Kraujalis, a National Weather Service meteorologist. By the time the storm is over, it could be one of the 10 worst in Duluth's recorded history.

With heavy winds producing snow drifts as deep as 5 feet, "it's awful, it's just awful," Kraujalis said. "It's a big workout just walking outside to check my weather equipment."

Copenhagen Climate Conference failed because prosperity matters
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Kevin Brady (R-Texas), the Lead House Republican on the Joint Economic Committee issued the following statement after the Copenhagen Global Warming Conference ended with an agreement so "vague, hastily hatched and non-binding President Obama isn’t even sure he’ll be required to sign it."

"Copenhagen failed because countries large and small fear the loss of economic prosperity that will accompany these arbitrary and scientifically questionable limits on carbon," said Congressman Brady. "A growing number of people around the world are reluctant to pay devastatingly higher fuel costs as part of an unproven experiment that will not likely change the natural cooling and heating cycles of the earth."

I’m thankful that the US emits such huge amounts of carbon dioxide. Yes, I know that’s not a politically correct statement. But the simple truth is that carbon dioxide emissions are closely correlated with energy consumption and energy consumption is almost perfectly correlated with wealth. The US is wealthy because Americans are able to consume huge amounts of hydrocarbons. And those hydrocarbons provide nearly 90% of the primary energy consumed in the US.

Life In A ‘Climate Change’ Box « Paul Driessen - PA Pundits – International
Copenhagen and the circling of alarmist wagons over the climate change email and computer code scandal has made one thing absolutely clear, to anyone with open eyes and minds. The caterwauling over warming has nothing to do with science or saving Planet Earth.

It has everything to do with global governance, UN control of energy, economies and lives, and of course money – for research, renewable energy, bureaucracies, and international welfare.
Op-Ed Columnist - The Copenhagen That Matters - NYTimes.com
“Already the green taxes here are quite high,” said [Danish minister, Lene Espersen]. “And even though we know this is not popular with business and industry, it has made all the difference for us. It forced our businesses to become more energy efficient and innovative, and this meant that, suddenly, we were inventing things nobody else was inventing [like what, specifically?] because our businesses needed to be competitive.”
Utopian New Left Just Like Old Left » The Foundry
Environmentalism, particularly in its more radical forms, has inherited all of the old left’s habits of mind, only on a far grander scale. It seeks to transform not just civilization, but the physical planet as well.

As with the old left, new left environmentalists view capitalism and the free market as enemies. But so, too, is reason. The lengths to which some scientists will go to stifle dissent reveal not only a disrespect for the scientific method, but also contempt for using reason to understand reality. If truly understanding climate change were the main goal, there would be no hesitation to look at all the evidence of global warming. In the minds of many climate-change scientists, however, the top goal is not to understand the planet but to “save” it. The cause transcends the science.

Breaking Down Climate Change into its Undeniable Parts « Dr. Michael Kagan - Climate of Change
One of the points that I have been making a lot recently in order to totally diffuse the debate over “who caused the climate to change?” is forget the change in climate, forget greenhouse gas emissions, forget global warming, now look at the terrible state of the oceans, the terrible state of the top soil, the terrible state of food production, health, economics, air purity, water purity, rain forests, wetlands, death of species etc. etc. there is no doubt that these are all human made devastations upon the well-being of the planet. Let’s clear up this mess then global warming will fall in place. The denial of our responsibility in the release of greenhouse gases is fear and laziness so child psychology recommends side-stepping that issue and going for the undeniable.

Media manipulation for all to see
What first prompted Watts' commentator to write in was an allegation by Prof. Sir David King, made at the demonstration, that the releaser of the CRU Archive had patiently accumulated e-mails and "mobile phone conversations" for a period of more than eleven years, and timed their release at "a week before [the Fifteenth Conference of Parties in] Copenhagen." In fact, a thorough search of the CRU Archive produces not a single e-mail that purported, or appeared, to be a text message from a cellphone, nor a transcript of a telephonic conversation, whether over cellular radio or landlines. More to the point, previous analysis has already shown that the archive was likely assembled by a regulatory compliance officer and then accidentally (or on purpose) left on a public server, from which the eventual releaser obtained it.

The most important evidence that Watts, Kilty, and Watts' commenter have discovered is probably that AGW alarmists love to manipulate the media, and persons lacking a proper education in science are exquisitely subject to such manipulation, especially in the form of a message repeated too often to count.

A Job at the End of a Rope - Green Inc. Blog - NYTimes.com
True, big wind turbines look pretty impervious as they turn slowly in the stiffest breeze. So why would they need repair? It turns out they can be damaged by lightning, ice buildup and other mishaps that can chip blades or create other problems. So episodic patches and repairs are necessary even for the best-designed turbines.

Ms. Galbraith points out that repairing big blades at the end of a rope is not necessarily an easy business to get into, even for those with the necessary climbing skills. Lining up liability and workers-compensation insurance can be a challenge. Still, some small companies, like Rope Partner in Santa Cruz, Calif., have managed to make it work.

Die Klimazwiebel: climate reconstructions and future climate projections
Projection of future climate change are basely almost exclusively on the results of simulations with climate models. Climate models do not include or use any information derived from proxy data. They are not calibrated, or their skill is scored, against past climate reconstructions. The consequence of this simple fact is that revisions of the reconstructions of past climates due to the new data or to the application of new statistical reconstruction methods do not require any revision of future climate change projections. In this sense the world of climate models and the world of proxy-based reconstructions are truly independent.

In all of the recent news about climate change, leaked emails, complex negotiations, and watered-down agreements in Copenhagen, one fact has't received enough attention. The climate "hoax" is real. The only problem is that the real hoax is the effort by climate change deniers who argue that the climate isn't changing, or that it isn't because of human actions. It is, and it is. The science is unambiguous. The climate is changing, rapidly, and it is doing so because of our emissions of greenhouse gases.

I know many people have said this. I've been saying it for twenty-five years in my research and writings.
...And the recent lack of action in Copenhagen pretty much ensures we're going to see the most rapid warming scenario. The warming the planet is already experiencing already exceeds that worst scenario.

From Poverty to Power by Duncan Green » Blog Archive » Are dogs the real population problem on climate change?
So if you care about climate change, join my new campaign. Our key demand is a ‘fish for fidos’ scheme, loosely based on Cash for Clunkers, whereby people trade in their dogs in return for goldfish. It makes at least as much sense to promote this as a solution to climate change as human population control in poor countries. Any takers, pop controllers?
EU Referendum: A hypocrite as well as a liar
Many people will remember the strident headline at the end of November blaring: "Western lifestyle unsustainable, says climate expert Rajendra Pachauri". That was the version in The Guardian, but other papers carried something very similar.

How so very different might have been the reception had the newspapers carried a photograph of the house occupied by multi-millionaire businessman Dr Rajendra K Pachauri, currently 160 Central Golf Links Road, New Delhi. This is situated in a delightful residential area (pictured above and below) very close to Khan Market, the most expensive market in India.

It is described as one of the most expensive places to live in India. The cheapest houses sell for millions of US dollars. It is considered one of the richest neighborhoods in India and the name is inspired by the Delhi Golf Course nearby. It has only 210 detached houses.

Methinks that a man who lives in a house worth millions, travels nearly half a million miles in 19 months by air and then tells us our lifestyles are "unsustainable" might possibly qualify for the label "hypocrite".
EU Referendum: Pachauri: admits to $300,000 in payments
This, however, only covers "some of the payments made to TERI". It includes €100,000 from the Deutsche Bank, $25,000 from Credit Suisse and $80,000 from Toyota Motors. The institute also received $48,750 from Yale University, $4,425 from the Asian Development Bank - which has given loans to Tata - and €1,200 from the French electricity giant EDF. At current conversion rates, that totals $302,746.
...
No mention is made of Pachauri's other current posts. Thus, we know nothing of payments (if any) from GloriOil, Siderian ventures, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Nordic Glitnir Bank, the Indochina Sustainable Infrastructure Fund, SNCF, his work as a Hindustan Times columnist, the Asian Energy Institute, FEOP (Far East Oil Price) Advisory Board, the International Solar Energy Society, the World Resources Institute or the World Energy Council.
EU Referendum: Pachauri: hornet's nest stirred
Dr Pachauri has some powerful friends. And these men are demanding an unqualified apology from the newspaper for the "libellous" piece of journalism, "failing which the institute would take recourse to other measures it would deem appropriate."

I guess we're off their Christmas card list then.
EU Referendum: Pachauri: Moving the goalposts
The mighty Rajendra Pauchauri, multi-millionaire extraordinaire, is now working terribly hard on trying to salvage his tattered reputation – but the harder he tries, the deeper he digs himself into a hole.
