That section is titled:
Golden Economic Age (A1): a century of expanded economic prosperity with the emergence of global governance.
Mann's contemptuous attitude toward the committee formerly chaired by Rep. Barton has already been discussed. However, the more important question is why Penn State chose to ignore the Wegman report. That report raises a number of concerns of its own about the then-current (and still-current) state of climate science. Specifically, Wegman et al., charged that the "Hockey Stick" is the product of improper statistical treatment of the data and for that reason alone was not valid. Furthermore, Wegman et al., stated that Mann et al. had formed an "inner circle" and refused to interact with the general community of statisticians (who might be expected to have an opinion on their treatment of the data), and that Mann and other principal investigators had a habit of "review[ing] one another's work" and "reus[ing] the same data sets." This, said the Wegman committee, meant that the work of Mann and other investigators might not be as independent as they pretended.

"Probable effects of increasing global atmospheric CO2 concentration on crop yield, crop water use, and world climate are discussed. About 430 observations of the yields of 37 plant species grown with CO2 enrichment were extracted from the literature and analyzed. CO2 enrichment increased agricultural weight yields by an 36%. Additional analysis of 81 experiments which had controlled CO2 concentrations showed that yields will probably increase by 33% with a doubling of atmospheric CO2 concentration. Another 46 observations of the effects of CO2 enrichment on transpiration were extracted and averaged. These data showed that a doubling of CO2 concentration could reduce transpiration by 34%, which combined with the yield increase, indicates that water use efficiency may double.Climate Gate Fraud Confirmed Not Revealed

There could, however, be another reason why the unit rejected requests to see its data.
This weekend it emerged that the unit has thrown away much of the data. Tucked away on its website is this statement: “Data storage availability in the 1980s meant that we were not able to keep the multiple sources for some sites ... We, therefore, do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (ie, quality controlled and homogenised) data.”
If true, it is extraordinary. It means that the data on which a large part of the world’s understanding of climate change is based can never be revisited or checked. Pielke said: “Can this be serious? It is now impossible to create a new temperature index from scratch. [The unit] is basically saying, ‘Trust us’.”

It's fiction to suggest that all of the carbon that human industry and trasnportation is pumping into the Earth's atmosphere has had nothing to do with climate change. A renowned oceanographer whom we know says that, in his decades of scientific research, he has never seen anything more real. It's foolishness to doubt the seriousness of global warming, or even to spend any time debating it.
In my holiday travels, I’ve been amazed by the degree to which the coverage of the hacked emails from East Anglia University's Climate Research Unit has captured the interest of normal people. In summary, therefore, Pascal’s wager can be applied neither to climate change nor to ‘global warming’ in any meaningful way. Indeed, believing in ‘global warming’ may burden you with more costs than not doing so, and believing that you know how to respond to ‘global warming’ may prove false, even if ‘global warming’ were to exist. Ultimately, of course, ‘global warming’ itself may prove a false ‘God’.What Story? - Mark Steyn - The Corner on National Review Online

If anyone needs newspapers, it ought to be for stories like this. If there were no impending epocalypse, then "climate science" would be a relatively obscure field, as it was up to a generation ago. Now it produces celebrity scientists living high off the hog of billions in grants. They thus have a vested interest in maintaining the planet's-gonna-fry line. So what do the media do? Instead of exposing the thesis to rigorous journalistic examination, they stage fluffy green stunts, run soft-focus "living green" features with Hollywood "activists", and at a time of massive staff cutbacks in every other department create the positions of specialist "climate correspondent" and "environmental reporter" and fill them with sycophantic promoters of the Big Scare to the point that, as Dr Mann coos approvingly to The New York Times, "you've taken the words out of my mouth".Andy Revkin (revkin) on Twitter

Lesson 2: Don't evade Freedom of Information requests. As noted in the Science Magazine link above, many of the e-mails discuss how to destroy documents in anticipation of Freedom of Information requests. That's a criminal offense in the United Kingdom (where the CRU is located). IT folks should be aware that an increasing amount of data (particularly scientific and research data gathered via public funding) is subject to FOIA. They should work with researchers to ensure documents are stored and organized with that in mind.RealClimate: Where’s the data?
Much of the discussion in recent days has been motivated by the idea that climate science is somehow unfairly restricting access to raw data upon which scientific conclusions are based. This is a powerful meme and one that has clear resonance far beyond the people who are actually interested in analysing data themselves. However, many of the people raising this issue are not aware of what and how much data is actually available.
Therefore, we have set up a page of data links to sources of temperature and other climate data, codes to process it, model outputs, model codes, reconstructions, paleo-records, the codes involved in reconstructions etc. We have made a start on this on a new Data Sources page, but if anyone has other links that we’ve missed, note them in the comments and we’ll update accordingly.

Till now, I have avoided more than very limited comment on the whole global-warming-carbon emissions controversy. But now that colossal spending and regulating programs impend on these issues, I must say that the Al Gore-David Suzuki conventional-wisdom hysteria is an insane scam.
Until we get some real answers to those questions, until we know what the true picture of scientific truth and political corruption is in the research centers of the climatology industry, I think we should be very leery of making drastic economic adjustments on the say-so of scientists whose only check appears to be their own self-control and honesty. I have no doubt that those virtues find wide distribution within the scientific community, but I also have no doubt that they are far from universal. It appears that Jones and the CRU folks didn’t simply massage the data. As other pundits have pointed out, they waterboarded it. There are several blatantly obvious conclusions to be drawn here. First, any group receiving public money for research must make their data available to all. Even to guys with laptops on Saturday afternoons. Second, it seems that peer review means next to nothing. In the whole AGW thing, collaborating researchers apparently became co-conspirators. Wink-wink, nudge-nudge has no place in honest scientific endeavors.
