“Scientific objectivity on this topic has long ago been suspended,” he said.

Other positive changes can be linked to global warming, he said. As the earth warms, the growing season increases. With it comes more vegetation. People think the South American rainforests are disappearing, Michaels said.
“That is the area where the vegetation is increasing the most on the planet,” he said, showing satellite images of increases in vegetation across the world.
“This is a horrible thing,” Michaels joked. “We really, really, really need to stop this, OK?”
...a report released by the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration indicates otherwise.
Tracking the economy it showed that employment figures would worsen for the first several years--improving slightly in the midterm, peaking in 2024 and then declining steadily-- with 25 percent fewer jobs in 2030.
"The Arctic melting, the world's high-altitude glaciers melting, epic droughts and then epic flood in dry and wet areas. Those kinds of changes are going to be so destructive. And that's with 1 degree of temperature increase, never mind the 5 that scientists think are coming in the course of this century," continued McKibben.Townhall.com::Talk Radio Online

If global warming is the main reason for the bark beetle outbreak today, what explanation is there for the bark beetle problems Colorado had in the 1970s? Though not quite as widespread, I remember the bark beetle devastation southwest of Denver at that time. Back then, a drive down U.S. 285 showed the same tree kill as a trip along I-70 does today. How could that have been, as Colorado temperatures were, in the 1970s, at the lowest point we have seen in the past 80 years?

Aug. 28, 2009 (EIRNS)—Disputing the forecast made by the United Nations body studying global warming, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which warned in early May that the glaciers in the world's highest mountain range could vanish within three decades, V.K. Raina, a leading glaciologist and former Additional Director-General of Geological Survey of India (GSI), claimed recently that the issue of glacial retreat is being sensationalized by a few individuals. Raina, who has been associated with the research and data collection in over 25 glaciers in India and abroad, debunked the theory that the Gangotri glacier is retreating alarmingly. He maintains that the glaciers are undergoing natural changes which are witnessed periodically. As globe warmed, Georgia cooled - The Augusta Chronicle

More CO2 in the air means more plant growth.Twitter / Bruce W. Boss
Earth's current atmospheric CO2 concentration is almost 390 parts per million (ppm). Adding another 300 ppm of CO2 to the air has been shown by literally thousands of experiments to greatly increase the growth or biomass production of nearly all plants. This growth stimulation occurs because CO2 is one of the two raw materials (the other being water) that are required for photosynthesis. Hence, CO2 is actually the "food" that sustains essentially all plants on the face of the earth, as well as those in the sea. And the more CO2 they "eat" (absorb from the air or water), the bigger and better they grow.

Critics of the House-approved climate bill -- the American Clean Energy and Security Act, sponsored by Democrats Henry Waxman (Calif.) and Ed Markey (Mass.) -- doubt the measure will generate scores of jobs. The more ambitious projects involve tinkering with the cow's genetic code. Researchers at the University of Alberta are examining the DNA in cows' four stomachs to identify the genes responsible for making them burp and regulating how much gas they produce. There were two questions about cap-and-trade legislation. The first questioner wanted to know what effect cap-and-trade legislation would have on an energy-intensive industry like agriculture and the second wanted to know what role the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would play in determining offsets in a cap-and-trade system.
Referring to the bill that was passed by the House of Representatives, Vilsack said the fertilizer industry would receive some assistance and benefits in the early years of the process. In the first 7 to 10 years of this effort there should not be any increase in the cost of fertilizer because of the benefits that industry will get from the bill, according to Vilsack.
"On the energy side, I don't think there is any doubt that there will be an increase; the question is whether or not there will be an offsetting income opportunity that will be equal to or greater than the new energy costs," Vilsack said. "Livestock producers will find more opportunities than they think."

Various questions addressed a carbon cap-and-trade proposal being debated in Congress.
One questioner asked why "strangle our economy" with emissions limits while in China, pollution continues unchecked.
"We're not going to strangle our economy," he said. "What we're going to do is unleash our economy."
He said the legislation would energize the burgeoning market for green energy and result in new technologies [like what?] that could be exported to developing countries to revitalize our economy and allow theirs to grow in a sustainable fashion.
He called maintaining the status quo the more "radical" option because it entails simply sitting by to see what consequences arise from climate change.
He was asked whether his support for cap and trade represented a conflict given the position of his wife, Maggie Fox, as head of Al Gore's organization, the Alliance for Climate Protection.
"My wife has her own career," he said.

But here is my confusion — he is absolutely convinced that oil is going up by $140 a barrel or more. Let’s look at this in the context of Co2. The CBO estimates the clearing price for a ton of Co2 emissions under the current bill will be between $20-$30 a ton. Since a barrel of oil creates about a third of a ton of CO2 emissions, this implies the cap and trade bill might increase the price of oil by $7-$10 per barrel. But if Romm think oil is going up by natural market forces by $140+, why even bother? Why not just put a tax on coal and be done with it?

The goal of cap and trade is to drive up energy prices so high people will use less energy, but even after reduced consumption, people still need to drive their cars and turn on their lights at home. All cap and trade does is force people to spend more on their energy bills. These higher energy prices result in a slower economy, which means less production, higher unemployment, and reduced income.SpaceWeather.com update

There has never been any science involved in the promotion of catastrophic global warming. When the Earth cooled from 1942 to 1975 CO2 emissions were increasing five times more rapidly than any time in history completely contrary to the AGW hypothesis proposed just 13 years after this cooling ended. None of the other greenhouse gases mentioned in the Kyoto Protocol are of sufficient quantity or affect a portion of the Earth's radiative spectrum that will result in any detectable effect on global temperature. These radiative bands are so narrow and in such low energy portions of the Earth's radiative spectrum, that even a ten-fold increase in all of the mentioned "greenhouse gases" will still not have a detectable effect on global temperature.

In response, on listservs and private conversations, I’m hearing more and more people express some version of the following sentiment: Barack Obama should save us.
...Mr Rudd would have to save the planet with a Massive Meteorite Tax (MMT). First of all he would work out who was going to be affected that is people living above ground. He could create a tradeable permit system to live above ground, permits which the government would issue, and reduce the number of permits each year. This would deliver a market approach to moving Australia underground.
If you argued against the scheme Mr Rudd could say that you were denying the existence of massive meteorites and putting all of humanity at risk. It would be stated that on the basis of evidence the existence of massive meteorites was overwhelming and we in Australia are not going to sit back and do nothing. He could create a new cause de jure to be demonstrated for and rallied around. Mr Rudd could be a world leader and go to forums in certain Danish towns stating that he was leading the world in burying Australia. He would affirm that if Australia could be successfully buried that other nations too could bury their economy and people, using Australia as a working example.
